A 28-day clinical study of ProBright Advanced showed a 40 percent reduction in hydrogen sulfide, one of the compounds that produces bad breath in dogs.

PetLab Co., a pet health company that specializes in science-backed dog supplements, is highlighting the results of a clinical study that helped to determine the impact of the brand’s ProBright® Advanced dental powder on bad breath-causing compounds in dogs. This is the first of a series of clinical studies planned for the brand’s bestselling dental product.

The double-blind, placebo-controlled study analyzed the total Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSC) in a group of 20 dogs over a 28-day period. These compounds — including hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide — are the leading cause of halitosis in our canine companions.

During the study period, one group of dogs was given ProBright Advanced daily with food, while the control group was given a placebo. At the end of the study, total VSCs for dogs in the ProBright Advanced group were 25 percent less than those in the control group. While all halitosis measurements showed a trend in reduction, the level of hydrogen sulfide, one of the most common VSCs, was significantly reduced (by 40 percent) in dogs who consumed ProBright Advanced daily for 28 days.
