Blank 2000 x 1500 (54)

Written by canine massage and wellbeing expert, Ruth McDonagh, under the pseudonym of Professor Daniel Springer-Spaniel, ‘They’re All Barking.’ A Dog’s Guide to Human Behaviour, delves deep into the impact human emotions – both positive and negative – have on him and other canine friends. Highlighting how collectively, humans are the ones responsible for many of today’s canine-related issues, Professor Daniel may be a dog, but his advice is well worth heeding.

UNITED KINGDOM – The author has created Professor Daniel Springer-Spaniel as a means to communicate with readers in a light-hearted manner, all she has learnt by working with dogs and humans. ‘They’re All Barking’ makes for a compelling, entertaining and eye-opening read.

Brimming with insights on how no or few boundaries, limited training, human emotions (stress, grief, anxiety, frenetic lifestyles etc) and our desire to ‘humanise’ our dogs is adversely affecting the wellbeing of our beloved pets, Professor Daniel proves himself to be an eloquent, witty and highly knowledgeable author.

Sharing case studies and ‘golden nuggets’ of sage advice for humans to put into action, ‘They’re All Barking’ offers dog owners a much-needed reset button which, if pushed, will transform their relationship with man’s best friend. It also leaves readers hoping that Professor Daniel Springer-Spaniel has further pearls of canine wisdom to impart.

 Synopsis:

PROFESSOR DANIEL DIGS DEEP INTO HOW HUMAN BEHAVIOUR IS AFFECTING THE NATION’S DOGS

Does your dog jump all over you? Do you dread leaving it alone? Does it have a wardrobe of outfits? Does it console you when life turns sour?

If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then ‘They’re All Barking’ is the book for you.

In his entertaining and emotive new book, Professor Daniel Springer-Spaniel, pulls no punches in telling us how life really is - from a dog’s perspective. Find out which type of human you are and how your behaviour, emotions and lifestyle could be affecting your best-friend.

Professor Daniel is a Fellow of the European Trust for Canine Health (FETCH), and in consultation with his colleague Dr Peter Pointer, PhD, Philosopher of Dogs, reveals what happens when your dog has no boundaries, little training, is humanised and unsocialised.

His book demonstrates how a human’s stress, grief, depression, anxiety and frantic living, can affect their beloved pet and features genuine case studies.

Described as ‘faction’, ‘They’re All Barking’ is based on fact, with fictional material added for literary effect. Former journalist turned canine massage therapist Ruth McDonagh, has acted as Professor Daniel’s editor and personal assistant, typing up his wise words.

The author says:

“Our book looks at the repercussions of humans ‘actions/inactions and lifestyles on their pets.

“During the pandemic there was a huge surge in dog ownership, often with new owners lacking knowledge and being unable to access appropriate professional support. As a result, a few years on, dogs are now suffering the consequences. Many have behavioural issues; many suffer with stress and anxiety (some even being given tranquillisers to calm them down) and a large number are being rehomed or taken to rescue centres. Surveys and studies by the Royal Veterinary College in conjunction with Battersea Dogs’ and Cats Home and the Dogs Trust bear all of this out.

“They’re All Barking’ was written to help educate dog owners and would-be dog owners to think differently and put the dogs’ needs first – rather than their own. It also shows why humanising dogs is both unnatural and unhealthy and promotes ways to enjoy a healthy, balanced relationship with your dog in which their welfare is paramount.”
